Common Greenshield Lichen

Flavoparmelia caperata

Description:

I know most of the pictures are blurry but this is what I got. The characteristics are that it is a greenish gray, 3 cm long and wide, it was growing on a tree, and there was multiple of them around. I am thinking that it is the common green shield lichen because it has most of the same characteristics. They are both leafy and greenish-gray, they both grow on trees and live in this area.

Habitat:

I am from Massabesic Middle School and my class was going outside in 3º C weather with winds of about 29 kph. The snow was 15 cm deep and some of us were wearing shoes. We got freezing ice cold feet. The whole reason that we were outside is to look for lichen. We found 3 different kinds of lichen. I am trying to figure out what one of them is.

Notes:

SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION: KINGDOM: Fungi/Plant DIVISION: Ascomycota CLASS: Ascomycetes ORDER: Lecanorales FAMILY: Parmeliaceae GENUS: Flavoparmelia SPECIES: Flavoparmelia caperata
