Golden Eagle

Aquila chrysaetos

Description:

One of the largest eagles in North America
This eagle gets is't name from the golden colored feathers on the crown and back of it's neck. Rest of the eagle is a dark brown. Powerful legs and talons. juveniles will have patches on the wings and dark band on tail. This bird was too far to tell.

Habitat:

These birds mostly fly over open areas such as marshes, fields, hills and cliffs.

Notes:

This one was flying the whole time that I noticed with one leg hanging down.

What always captures my attention, when I'm looking at Golden Eagles, is how long their talons are ... much longer than other eagles or birds of prey.
