The first four pics show a male going through his courtship ritual. The male is the top butterfly and the tops of his wings are a deep orange with a brown border. The female is on the flower and is paler with a darker border. Pic 5 shows the underside.
Spotted on wildflowers in a large open meadow (see pic 6) at the Bald Knob National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas.
