Schizophyllum commune
Schizophyllum commune is a very common species of mushroom in the genus Schizophyllum. It is the world's most widely distributed mushroom, occurring on every continent except Antarctica. The gills, which produce basidiospores on their surface split when the mushroom dries out, earning this mushroom the common name Split Gill. It has more than 28,000 sexes.
I found this growing on a small fallen branch & picked it up to get better light for the photo. First image is actually the underside, which I thought was the most interesting view of this specimen.

It seems to be common around here but I just didn't recognize it from the underside!
I've never seen one like this, not very common around here.
My fault - should have explained in the notes.
Oh, thanks for explaining!
Thanks Leuba!
Maria, this was on a small branch I found lying on the ground in the shade so I am holding it to get better light. The first photo is actually the underside which I thought was the more attractive view.
