Lesser Peachtree Borer Moth

Synanthedon pictipes

Description:

A pest similar to the Peachtree Borer (Synanthedon exitiosa) http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/893... - except that the larvae prefer older trees and will attack any part of the tree, whereas the larvae of S. exitiosa generally stays near the base of the trunk. Adults are diurnal often seen nectaring from flowers.

Habitat:

Eastern Canada & U.S. - as far west as Minnesota in the North & eastern Texas in the South. Host Plants: Stone fruits (Prunus) including peach, cherry, plum, prune, nectarine apricot and ornamental shrubs.
