Eupeodes americanus
4mm long syrphid fly.
Old cemetery.
Eupeodes americanus looks really similar, but it is usually around 10mm...
Maria, fingers crossed we have seen the last of the snow here for the winter though they are forecasting the possibility next week!
I think it's becoming a problem though Goody - the other day my neighbor came over to check I was OK because she had seen me on my knees for ages in the yard - she looked very surprised when I explained I had been taking photos of spiders! Luckily I am English so I can get away with a certain amount of eccentricity! :)
Thanks Mary!
Maria, I hadn't noticed how much the second pic looks like snow! It was cold yesterday but not enough to snow. I took these photos in a cemetery - this little guy was soaking up the sun on a granite headstone! I went there to photograph graves as the camera club competition theme for next month is sculpture & monuments, but came away with photos of bugs!
