Cinnabar Goatfish

Parupeneus heptacanthus

Brownish yellow to light red; lavender to irrisdescent blue stripes around eye and on upper sides, small dark spot on mid-side. Goatfish use a pair of large chin barbels to probe the sea bottom to detect buried prey. The barbels are studded with taste buds but little else is known about the neural organization of this system.

Turbid areas on silty sand or weedy bottom.
