Definitely a Coprinus species.
Found in my front yard.
Called inky caps because of the ink like substance they "melt" in to. This liquid can actually be used as ink as well. I am experimenting with it currently so having one of these pop up in the front yard was rather convenient.
yes! I think this should be a SOTD when they work again. I hope I can get a SOTD....
