This fly is probably a syrphid, but the markings seem different from any I see on line.
seen around noon in a city park.

This looks like a syrphid from Genus Toxomerus. I am not sure I feel comfortable giving this a species name with only the one image. http://bugguide.net/node/view/3277/bgpag...
