Dicranosterna picea
We saw a number of these beetles in acacia trees along a short stretch of the Trachyte Circuit, Glasshouse Mountains, Queensland. The first four shots are of the same specimen (colour variation due to the beetle moving in and out of the shade) while the last shot is two others getting busy. This beetle is apparently quite common but it was the first time I'd seen it.

Me too. I did come 'this close' when I spotted one that immediately flew before I grabbed by camera =(
Thanks Martin, I want to find one of the white ones now!!!!
There are three beetle species in this genus and they are strangely different- one of them is white http://lifeunseen.com/index2_item_3201.p... the other is here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/829... . What this genus shares is spotty larvae http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_...
Fine pictures of a fine beetle.
Thanks for shearing it
Thank you, Gerardo! : )
