Green Lacewing Eggs

Chrysopa sp.

Description:

I found this lacewing resting beside her eggs on the wall recently. It seemed the eggs were laid just a few mins ago. Picture1: Mother Green Lacewing with eggs Picture2: Eggs after 65hrs Picture3: Larvae after 105hrs : Each Larva took approx 10mins to fully emerge out of the egg. As you can see the rear is still attached to the eggs' inside. Picture4: Larvae after 112hrs: The Larvae stayed in this position until the body was completely developed and ready for feeding. After which they dropped off and vanished in search of soft bodied insects. Picture5: A Larva With adorned debris : In this stage the Lacewing Larva voraciously feeds on soft bodied insects, such as aphids, spider mites, immature bugs and leafhoppers. All they do is feed and adorn themselves with debris and the prey-insect exoskeleton which might offer some camouflage and protective benefits... These guys are effectively used to control pests such as -Aphids,Mealybugs,Moth eggs and small caterpillars...!!!

Habitat:

The Western Ghats, Grassland and Shrubs.
