Orange beach lichen

Caloplaca marina

Description:

Many of the larger rocks in this small marine nature reserve had 'splatters' of orange lichen which was extremely hard to remove. The close-up view shows some structures which might help with identity. The rocks would have full sun all day.

Habitat:

Just above high tide mark in a small nature reserve.
