Nasutitermes corniger
Nasutitermes corniger is a species of termite that builds large, dirt nests onto structures such as trees (as pictured). The queen is enclosed in a small, reinforced chamber at the center of the nest. A mature colony can contain between 50,000 and 400,000 infertile workers.
Nasutitermes corniger is native to the subtropics. This particular nest was photographed at Las Croabas beach, Puerto Rico.
