Ensatina Salamander

Ensatina eschscholtzii

Description:

Small dark salamander about 3 inches long with pale underbelly and reddish spots where the limbs join the body.

Habitat:

Moist streambed in redwood forest

Notes:

There is a lot of variety in the subspecies of Ensatina, with quite a lot of intergrade. This subspecies most closely resembles the Monterey Salamander.
