Iridescent Gold Jumping Spider

Sassacus vitis

Description:

It's days like this I kick myself for not having a better phone camera. This guy was tiny and bright metallic gold. Almost like a piece of jewelry. I wasn't even aware that spiders could be that gold. Like King Midas himself had a hand in the animal kingdom, magnificent.

Habitat:

I can't find a lot of this species, but I assume they're pretty widespread considering how many folks I've seen on Bug ID websites that have seen them.

Notes:

This is one of those photos I had to edit the brightness on, my phone camera does no justice on an overcast fall afternoon in Kansas, to show you how metallic and shiny this tiny spider was.
