Crambid Snout Moth

Description:

Crambidae; Pyraustinae; Euclasta sp. This moth has extremely long legs and it rests with its wings closed. This results in a very peculiar posture, which, once you know it, makes this type of moth recognizable even some distance away. I have not come across much information about moths of this genus, but the two that I have seen (this and another one) look very similar in size, style and posture. Even the colours (a combination of white, light brown and dark brown with a black spot on each front wing) are very similar. I don't know how many Euclasta spp. are present in Philippines. I have only spotted two and I think https://philepidoptera.wixite.com/moths have pictures of the same spp.

Habitat:

This Crambid Snout Moth was spotted in a recently planted rice field where the leaves of the young crop were looking very healthy. this mass of greenery provided a beautiful backdrop for pictures of the moth and was, of course the ideal place for a moth of the Family: Crambidae - Grass Moths.

Notes:

This Euclasta sp. together with the other similar sp. in my spotting no. 18551557777 might possibly be the only Euclasta spp. in the Philippines. It may be rather presumptuous to say that, but I really cannot find any references to any other spp. of this genus. Even my favourite source of Lepidopteran information, https://philepidoptera.wixsite.com/moths..., have only the same two spp. on display in their Crambidae section.
