Giant Fishing Spider

Ancylometes rufus

Description:

A Huntsman spider that has about a 3 cm body and a 9 cm leg span. It was a beautiful silky black with bright yellow stripes on each side of the cephalothorax.

Habitat:

This spider was found walking in the cut grass 10 meters from a cement block building where they are commonly seen. It was spotted @20:30 in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

Although this spider was found over a kilometer away from the river, as the crow flies (2 kilometers as the spider walks), it is undoubtedly the same as the one illustrated in the bottom link on the right and the spider in #2, Ctenidae in this link <http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-brie......>
