Podiceps auritus
The is one of the smaller grebes at 31–38 cm (12–15 in) in length. Both the male and female have a dark head with gold/brown tufts along the sides of the head. The neck is rusty red, eyes are red, and it has a small black bill tipped in white.

Liam, I used a Canon 5D with a 300mm f4L USM IS lens with a 1.4x converter for this photo.
FluffBerger, The grebe in the photo has just captured a small fish, which is what is sticking out of its bill.
May I ask what camera/lens you were using?

Excellent photo. I see these birds all winter long in our local harbor, but never get to see them in breeding plumage.
