Common Goldeneye

Bucephala clangula

Description:

Adults range from 45–52 cm (18–21 in) in length; females are slightly smaller. The males have a dark green head and a white patch below their golden eye. Adult females have a brown head and a mostly gray body. Feet are a yellow/orange.

Habitat:

These ducks breed across northern US and the forested regions of Canada. I frequently find them on waterways and lakes in northern Minnesota on when I'm on wilderness canoe trips.
