Pitcher Plant

darlingtonia californica

rare endangered plant

i found it in a wetland in Oregon

Pitcher plants grow in soil poor in nutrients, so they get nutrients by trapping insects. The pitcher forms a funnel that insects fall into and die. The dead insects decay and provide nutrients to the plant in the form of compost.
