Wingspan: 60-65mm. Status: Common. Distr.: India, Shri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myamnar, Pakistan.
Often seen around fresh water marshes, where the food plant Hygrophila auriculata is abundant. Sailing or swift flight close to the ground. Fond of flowers. Though it flies up to 2,100 m on hills, it is more at home in the plants. Common visitor to gardens. Male territorial.
Adult: UP tawny orange with prominent eyespots on both wings, very large unmistakable eyespot on UPH and two smaller eyespots on UPF. UPF apex square-cut, not pointed, and termen concave. Three narrow black lines along border on UP both wings. DSF*:FW produced and falcate, HW tailed at tornus and UN appears like a dry leaf. WSF: FW not produced, HW not tailed, eyespots present on UN that does not look like dry leaf. LF: Barleria spp., Hygrophila auriculata (Acanthaceae), Osbeckia sp. (Melastomaceae), Phyla nodiflora (Verbenaceae). Found at Nagla, Maharshtra, India
