Description:

Low, slightly hairy, perennial creeping plant. Leaves opposite, rounded or oblong, with blunt teeth. Flowers greenish, 3 to 4 mm, surrounded by bright yellow-green leafy bracts. It grows to 0.2-0.5 m. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by flies, beetles, and itself.The plant is self-fertile. It is in flower from April to July. It grows in semi-shade (light woodland). It prefers moist or wet soil. Leaves are edible, either raw or boiled.
