Night-wandering Sea Cucumber

Stichopus noctivagus

Description:

A nocturnal species of sea cucumber.

Notes:

Spotted this strange creature at a depth of about 14m, during a night dive. I believe we're looking at it from behind -- see the 3rd photo, which shows what could be the animal's anus. Could this be a kind of sea cucumber? It moved once, and showed what appeared to be tentacles underneath.

@lori.tas - Unfortunate indeed!

At that size, Blogie, it might not even look the same as it does full grown (assuming it gets bigger). Unfortunately, all the information about cucumbers in that area is about eating them.

That's what I thought too, lori.tas, but I can't seem to find any reference to it...

It looks like a type of sea cucumber to me.

@jgorneau - I'd say it was 7 or 8 cm long.
