The most beautiful of Indian Squirrels endemic to the forests of Peninsular India.It is a diurnal and arboreal species. It occurs in tropical evergreen, semievergreen and moist deciduous forests. The species is not tolerant of habitat degradation.

I saw them many times in deep forests with least disturbance... They are very shy and quick. They are tough to spot. Earlier I do no have better camera. So do not have spottings in my collection. 2 years back I find newly borne cub and find it in my very few Mammal spottings.

Thts nice, Ashish.. I have seen them in all the forests here and they are quite common and just as beautiful every where.. The coloration does vary due to habitats and they are found in diff sub species as well...I myself have seen this difference in dif places tht I have seen them in...

In Bhimashankar forest we find very Red MGS than this Maxima race. I did not had chance to visit there since my Canon arrived. I will post it in spottings.. as I grab one of them. They are my dream spottings.

Thanks, IIya Bezdelev.. This information is as per wikipedia..(Adult head and body length varies between 14 inches (36 cm) and the tail length is approximately 2 ft (0.61 m). Adult weight - 2 kg (4.41 lb).[6]) ... It was an adult so must have been around the same...
