Slant-faced Grasshopper

Description:

Acrididae; Acridinae; Acrida sp. The Slant-faced Grasshopper shown here is a nymph and it was very "floppy" and weak looking in its movements. So I am sure it had just moulted. It is yellowish white, but there are hints of green so I suspect it will be all green when its exoskeleton firms up. The most impressive feature of this spotting was its size. It was easily twice the size of any other slant face I have ever seen. So I suspect that it is Acrida conica (Fabricius, 1781), but that is not recorded present in Philippines, except right here in my little pocket note book! :-)

Habitat:

This grasshopper was spotted doing something very unusual (with regard to habitat). It was climbing up a very old mossy mango tree in the front yard of the rice mill. I took a 20 second video of this on my cellphone camera, But I am not sure if I am allowed to upload footage on Project Noah. If it is allowed, I will add it to this spotting later.
