Description:

This is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It ranges through most of the United States as well as parts of Canada and Mexico.This butterfly is one of the three monarch mimicking butterflies native to North America.It shows off it's Aposematic colors to warn predators I don't taste good, or I'll make you sick, as a defense mechanism.

Habitat:

Meadows,marshes,swamps and other forms of wet land.

Notes:

Caught gliding above wildflowers near railroad tracks.
