Small cuckoo wasp

Primeuchroeus spp.

Description:

A small green/blue wasp with beaded antennae, rough textured head and body, dark tinted wings.
Approximately 6mm long.

Habitat:

On the sunny side of a large, smooth eucalyptus tree in a local vacant lot. Urban back yard.

Notes:

Although there are at least 76 species of cuckoo wasp in Australia we see only a couple in our area. One species is fairly large at about 12mm long and the other is about 6mm. The antennae are also somewhat key. Primeuchroeus contains about 25 species and further determination requires microscopy.
