Southern Black Widow

Latrodectus mactans

Description:

Two black widow specimens found under the same rotting fence post. Both were missing legs and in very close proximity. I wonder if they are territorial and may have been fighting prior to being disturbed? The first two pictures are one specimen, the third and fourth are the smaller specimen, and the last shows both in relation to one another, although they were closer before the picture was taken.

Habitat:

Under a decaying broken fence post on the first day of October, the temperature is still very warm and humid.
