A hard mushroom with a knobby reddish stem.

I was told this is a very valuable medicinal mushroom in China . . . . the Chinese young man that found it with me was VERY excited. He believed it to be ganoderma lucidum.

Yes, that IS the name he gave me for it . . . anyone have any idea if this actually is ganoderma lucidum? It doesn't look quite right to me based on pictures, but I know basically nothing about mushrooms.
It might be 'Lingzhi' ganoderma lucidum, does that sound similar? In Paul Stamets book Mycelium Running it is listed as having lots of different medical properties rivalled only by Cordyceps sinensis
