A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Sciurus carolinensis
Eastern gray squirrel. They are members of the rodent family and live in trees. They live in tree cavities or nests that they build out of leaves. Can grow 17 to 20 inches long. They have grayish-brown fur. Their bellies have light gray fur. The tail is silvery-tipped. Squirrels mate in the winter and both the male and female build the nest. They can be found in backyards, gardens, city parks, forests, anywhere there are large trees whose leaves die in the fall.
This is our backyard squirrel gathering nuts for the upcoming winter.
