Greta morgane oto
These butterflies walk on 4 legs only, the first pair is poorly developed. The wings are transparent.
Central America, Caribbean islands, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyanas, Brasil. Typically in mountainous areas, cloud forests, tepuis etc.
I spotted this butterfly in an orchid garden in the Netherlands.
Greta cubana is an endemic species to Cuba and I can't really imagine that this species would be found in a butterfly house in The Netherlands. I think it is the most commonl found species Greta morgane oto or formerly called Greta oto. The actual taxon is Greta morgane oto.
I've never seen this one, transparent wings?! Nature's paintbrush never disappoints!
