Neptis hylas
Neptis hylas, sometimes known as the Common Sailer, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia and Southeast Asia. It has a characteristic stiff gliding flight achieved by short and shallow wingbeats just above the horizontal.
spotted in my gardin in Tamil Nadu, South India
Hi Rubens, Have looked carefully at your ID, and they really do look alike. But I notice a couple of differences. In Neptis duryodana nesia, the shoulder/neck is red instead of green, the large spots on the forewing seem to have small crescent moon markings underneath them, and Wikipedia says they are found in Malaysia. I saw mine in South India, so i am more likely to go with the other ID, Neptis Hylas, though I will wait for other's confirmation.
Thanks a lot for your ID. Every new ID makes me look more closely at the butterfly, and notice things I didn't see before, and hence I learn more. Thank you so much for your interest and input...
