tiny bright red puff ball like fungus about 1cm across. Hollow inside and had lots of small flies flying around it.

That's interesting Clive. I sometimes think that although sapiens are responsible for considerable depletion of other life forms they are also causing the biggest life-churn this planet has seen by moving stuff all over.

I found another which was damaged and that had a white lining.
