Longleaf Wattle Gall Wasp

Trichilogaster gall.

Description:

Some sort of gall growing on the flower heads of Acacia longifolia. The little knobbly bits are the flowers are trying to push through.

Habitat:

Wildlife corridor just off the beach in Phillip Island.

Notes:

Is that an Acacia?
This could be a Trichilogaster gall.

At least a couple of species of Trichilogaster are being used as biological control agents for invasive Acacias in South Africa.
