Yellow-legged Gull

Larus michahellis

Description:

This is a large white gull with grey coat, black wing tips and bright yellow legs. The head is snow white, with yellow beak and eyes, and red eye-rings and red spot on beak. Immature birds show brown patterned coat (photo 6).

Habitat:

Mediterranean gull, but a regular visitors to lake Geneva and its surroundings. This one seen on lake Divonne, close to protected marshes, and during the Wetlands BIrd Count 2019.

Notes:

This gull was only recently recognized as separate species in family Laridae.
