Size of a moorhen or pigeon, these are crepuscular waterbirds, with recognisable pure white face, neck and breast. Upperparts are dark slaty-gray, while the belly and undertail are cinnamon coloured. Long legs and toes are yellow, as is the bill - bill sports red spot.
This is a common waterbird of South and Southeast Asia, found on marshy grounds. Here, on edges of paddyfields, in a generally marshy area of a main town, Cox's Bazar.
