Butterfly Flag

Diplarrena moraea

Description:

This plant was the only one of it's type in a large, mixed native, bushland so it really stood out. About 80cm tall with 4 or 5 flower stems coming from a dense clump of dark green, long, blade-like leaves.

Habitat:

In a dry sclerophyll forest dominated by silver leafed stringybark eucalyptus. Baluk William Flora Reserve.

Notes:

Very much Victoria and Tasmania.
Family: Iridaceae
Subfamily: Iridoideae
Tribe: Sisyrinchieae
D. moraea is included in the Tasmanian Fire Service's list of low flammability plants, indicating that it is suitable for growing within a building protection zone. - wiki
