Dog Stinkhorn

Phallus rubicundus

Description:

About 5 inches tall. Orange and red stem. Slimy cap with many flies attracted to it.

Habitat:

Underneath my willow tree in a large flower bed.

Notes:

This was out in early morning and folded over and dying by early afternoon. very short lived. I believe it to be a variety of stink horn.?? The second picture in the series is back lit by the sun showing the translucency of the stem. It seemed to be glowing with an internal fire.

I think it may be Phallus rubicundus due to the differentiated head.
