Description:

Spike. Unopened buds at tip and opened flowers at bottom. White. Fleshy petals. Circlet of stamens with pollen-rich anthers making a good contrast. Leaves are flat and green.

Habitat:

Along the coastline of Havelock Island.

Notes:

First exposure to such pretty mangrove flowers. Had thought all mangroves reproduce by vivipary. Also called balltree, beach calophyllum, beach touriga, beautyleaf, Borneo-mahogany,Indian doomba oiltree,Indian-laurel,laurelwood, red poon, satin touriga,and tacamahac-tree.
