Black-fronted Forktail (male)

Ischnura denticollis

About 25 mm in body length, colored as shown. Note blue "tail" ring is reduced to spot on upper side of abdomen only; No dorsal stripes or spots on top of thorax, also unusual for forktails.

On rock beside backwater pond very close to the Arkansas River. Overall riparian corridor with cottonwood trees, cattails in pond.

This represents a Fremont County record for the species, and an exceptionally late date as well.
