Blue Banded Bee (Male)

Amegilla (cingulata?)

Description:

Body covered in hairs. Abdomen with wide blue and black stripes. Body up to 1 cm long. Males stripes are generally white to very pale blue

Habitat:

Saw these three Blue banded bees roosting for the night in my garden early yesterday evening. The strange thing was they were all separate which is unusual as the males generally cluster in groups at night not by themselves. Two were fairly close to each other, but the third one was probably a meter away from the other two

Notes:

There are eleven species of described blue-banded bees in Australia ranging in size from 8-14 mm.
