Small Tortoiseshell, Kleiner Fuchs

Aglais urticae L.

Description:

The common Small Tortoiseshell occurs all over Europe. Its forewings are about 2,5 cm long and have a characteristic pattern. This one has overwintered and therefore could be seen as early as March.

Habitat:

Lives in various habitats. Always near Urtica dioica because the caterpillars only eat stinging nettles.
