Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

This is a young Cooper's hawk. It is perched on a clothesline T. It was a good sized hawk. I took the photo through my kitchen window so I could get the shot without scaring him off. Not the best photo. It was just before sunset too.

Habitat:

North Texas

Length and barring on tail does not match a red-shouldered hawk. This bird has the slimmer shape and tail length of an accipiter not a buteo.

Agree with Cooper's Hawk, there is no way this can be a red-shouldered hawk with that long of a tail

Looks like a young red-shouldered to me.
