Spotted Towhee

Pipilo maculatus

Habitat:

coastal chaparral

Notes:

This towhee was chasing another around in courtship. That explains the exposed perch, since it is rare to see this species out in the open.

Emma, Living on the coast gives me access to so many wonderful habitats. San Mateo county really does have some great wildlife watching. But if you wait long enough, maybe Walnut Creek will have it's own coastline if the doomsayers are correct.

This bird sings one of my favorite birdsongs. Nice shot!
