Shelduck

Tadorna tadorna

Description:

Medium-sized (about 55-60cm in length) attractive duck, size of a smaller goose. Strikingly coloured, in a combination of white, chestnut and black, and a pink-red bill. During this time of the season, colours start to wash off in adults (pics N° 1 to 3), while in younger birds (pics N° 4 and 5) colours are still not fully developed.

Habitat:

First four pics were taken in protected area of Sené marshes in Morbihan bay of Brittany, France. These are saline marshes, I described them few times as "waders' paradise". Last pic is from a fjord on northern shores of Brittany. Otherwise, we observed these very often, on rocky shores of Atlantic, and larger freshwater bodies inside the land.
