Centropus andamanensis
Like the crow pheasant we see on the Indian mainland in size and general body shape. Only it is a dirt white and rust in colour. Even the ruby gem like eye is the same.
It was early morning and I was standing at the hotel window in Port Blair, Cyclone Hudhud had brought lots of rain and I did not have my glasses on...there were many pigeons (pied colour) around and my first thought was "another pesty bird" and simultaneously it struck me that this was nothing like a pigeon...it walked on the corrugated roof of the hut and then took a semi-leap, semi flight into the branches of a coconut tree nearby. I think it was nesting in the tree.
I think it is a common species because when we went for a stroll, we found a pair foraging on the wasteland just outside the hotel.

James McNair... Now that you mention It....I recall that most books describe it as "beady" eyes...:)
Love the eye on this lovely bird!
Ava T-B, Really!! That makes me so happy.
Congratulations SukanyaDatta, this is the first of this species to be posted to Project Noah! Nice notes too.
