Indian Skimmer

Rhynchops albicollis

Description:

IUCN Status : Threatened > Category : Vulnerable

Habitat:

Large River

Notes:

Cosider this : ... when we started in the morning sky was deeply overcast and it started raining ... ... when we reached there it was raining still ... ... but, our guide and boatman Mr.Singh agreed to take us on a short recce ... as about 3-4 Skimmers were seen in the area after a gap of nine days ... Rain too held back momentarily ... Just five minutes and 1-2 km into stream we located this individual sitting on a sand-bar along with a Gharialis gangeticus and a River Tern ... We could manage a few shot in very low-light, before it flew off ... We moved 3-4 Km further down the stream without any success ... It started pouring down and Mr.Singh rushed back on top speed ... We got all drenched at 10 deg. ambient temp ... ... barely able to save the equipment ... Came back only with a plan to go back to the spot again, the next day ... ________________________
