Bengal Tiger

Panthera tigris tigris

Tiger tiger burning bright! A wild tiger I saw in India this summer.

Seen in a dry grasslands/forest ecosystem in India. Exact location hidden for the safety of this tiger.

Check out my photography page at Tigers have a distinct way of capturing our hearts with their unique mixture of beauty and ferocity. This is displayed clearly by the tiger stories, art, poetry, and symbolism that play a large role in countless cultures globally. The phrase 'Tiger, tiger, burning bright, in the forests of the night' from William Blake's poem "The Tiger" (see below) still speaks to many people around the world about the tiger's power and prowess, nearly 200 years after Blake's death. Despite, and perhaps even because of, this fascination we have with these animals, they are in grave danger of becoming extinct within our lifetime. According to WWF and Leonardo DiCaprio's Save Tigers Now campaign, there 100,000 tigers in the wild 100 years ago. Now, the number of wild tigers is estimated to be as few as 3,200. We need to act fast if we want tigers to continue to capture the hearts of our children, and their children after them. ***Please learn more about this, issue and how you can help, at . ***
