Blue-green Scarabs

Diphucephala colaspidoides

Description:

Beautiful shimmering teal coloured beetles about 8 mm long. The pronotum was broad and narrowly margined with a pale green. Tarsi were a shimmering blue (pic 4). the underside was white covered and looked like felt. Antennae were clubbed with lamellae that they could spread out (pic 2)

Habitat:

Spotted hundereds feeding on Broom Tea-tree in a national park.
Occurrence record:
http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Green+Scar...

Notes:

similar to the Green Scarab seen in
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/117...
They were upto all sorts of antics -clambering over each other, mating, taking off and landing (pic 5) or stretching out from one flower to the other (pic 6). They could be easily missed for despite their brilliant colour that can be seen from so far away, they are small and do easily merge with the greenery.
Family: Scarabaeidae
