Sooty Shearwater

Puffinus griseus

Description:

One of the most abundant birds on the planet. The Pacific birds shown here first bred on rocky islands around New Zealand around December before heading across the Pacific. The shearwaters from there either head to Japan, Alaska, or California and spend the summers feeding in the rich waters off the coasts of those areas before heading back.
